nog even een update van Impact FC, het evenement voor alle veteranenfans
http://www.impactfc.au.com/images/logo.png
When Impact FC announced its July fight cards, most of us looked at the fact that Pedro Rizzo and his chronically unreliable fellow Brazilian, Paulo Filho were fighting two weekends in a row and said "Good luck with that."
Well, now it seems that a yet-to-be-named promotion is rolling the dice one more time by adding Rizzo, Filho and fellow Impact FC signee Murilo Bustamante to a planned August 14 card, according to TATAME.
For those who weren't paying attention, 43-year-old Bustamante, who will take on TUF 7 outcast Jesse Taylor at the new Australian promotion's July 18 event, hasn't fought since "retiring" in 2007, but is planning on fighting twice in less than four weeks.
Filho, who won a heavyweight bout on June 4, has pulled out of two fights in the past year. He is scheduled to take on Keith Johnson on July 10 and UFC and PRIDE veteran Denis Kang on July 18, which, including the August bout, would bring his tally to four fights in two months. Since 2000 when he began competing in MMA, 2006 was the only year that the 32-year-old fought as much four times, so I’m not holding my breath on this one.
36-year-old Rizzo has only fought three times since 2008, yet it’s expected he will remain healthy enough to compete three times in as many months. Sure, he is heading into his July 18 fight with Ken Shamrock riding a two-fight win streak, having defeated Gary Goodridge and Jeff Monson in his past two outings, but the last time Rizzo had three fights in even a one-year span was in 2003.
Even in the highly unlikely scenario that all of these fighters do compete in all of their scheduled bouts, what will the pace of their fights on last card be like?
*According to the report, Rizzo's opponent for the August 14 show was slated to be Tim Sylvia, but the "Maine-iac pulled out of the event after breaking his foot in his Moosin fight with Mariusz Pudzianowski last month.

en nog de tegenstander van Bob Sapp
There's a new heavyweight Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt in town.
Soa "The Hulk" Palelei was promoted last week to black belt as he begins preparations for a MMA fight against Bob Sapp at Impact FC 2 on July 18 in Sydney, Australia. Palelei received his belt from David Phillips, under Pedro Sauer.
"I've been doing BJJ for almost 12 years its been a long time," Palelei said with a laugh. "It was so good getting my black belt and it's been a long time coming, but very good putting my jiu-jitsu gi on and I feel proud."
Palelei (9-2) is a staple in the Australia MMA scene and has ventured to Japan for PRIDE 28 and Las Vegas for UFC 79. The two fights for PRIDE and UFC are the only losses on his record.
Palelei, who has only fought once in the past two-and-a-half years, tells MMAFighting.com that he had "some issues with the government," but has already confirmed additional fights and expects to compete more often this year.
Palelei will fight for the first time since March 2009 when he takes on the 300-plus pound Sapp (11-6-1) next month. Sapp has been actively fight the past two years and recently snapped a three-fight losing streak in March with submission victory in a local Croatia card.
"Bob Sapp, he's the 'Beast' and I'm the 'Hulk' so it will be a good battle between us both," Palelei said. "He's a strong guy but I do have a game plan."

Australia Athletic Commission Won't Allow Filho to Fight on Both Impact FC Cards

(Ironically, this is the most non-crazy tattoo Paulo has.)
Realizing that chronically unreliable personal demon chaser Paulo Filho will do well to make it to one of his scheduled July Impact Fighting Championship bouts, the Australia Athletic Commission has disallowed the Brazilian from competing on both the July 10 and July 18 cards as planned.
Graciemag announced the news we have all been predicting today.
Filho (20-1), who was originally also slated to fight at Impact FC's scrapped July 3 event in Perth, takes on K-1 Heroes, PRIDE and UFC veteran Denis Kang (32-12-1, 2 NC) on July 18 in Sydney if he makes it to the show.
The embattled former WEC middleweight champion has pulled out of two scheduled bouts in the past four months, which makes his participation in the event questionable.
His opponent for the July 10 event, John Kolosci has been dropped from the card, which has changed considerably since the original line-up was announced. It could have something to do with the reliability of the fighters the promotion is banking on for the shows.
According to the Impact FC website, Karo Parisyan's (18-5, 1 NC) opponent has also changed. Originally scheduled to take on Luis Dutra Jr., "The Heat" will now face 5-1 Australia native Ben "Knuckles 5-Percenter" Mortimer on the card.

Josh Barnett will be wearing wrestling boots at Impact FC
We've implanted one of our guys in the heart of Australia like some half-assed attempt at being an international spy. Impact FC Brisbane is about to kick off this Saturday and it features Josh Barnett, Geronimo Dos Santos, Karo Parisyan, Carlos Newton, Sokoudjou, Jeff Monson but unfortunately Paulo Filho will not be there. Filho was initially scheduled to fight in all three of Impact FC's cards this month until the athletic commission informed him that if he wasn't Chris Leben, fighting in consecutive cards is an impossible and unhealthy feat.
Some items that our photographer noted were that all bouts are going to be held under the 'Standard Unified Rules'. Brisbane has no official sanctioning body so they will be importing the commission from Sydney, Australia. The cage will be the same dimensions as the UFC and they will be wearing gloves made by Weapons Of Mass Destruction.
At 11:00 am the press conference started however Karo Parisyan's opponent did not show up. Another no-show was Jeff Monson who apparently was delayed in transit but is expected to be there tomorrow for the weigh-ins. Questions were raised over Monson's possible visa discrepancies because of his criminal record for 'Anarchistic behavior'. It was also noted that he has a fight in Montreal, Australia on the same date which has not been ruled out. All they could say was that he was definitely on his way. Josh Barnett also asked if he could wear wrestling boots. The answer was obviously yes (because who really wants to be that guy to break the news that he can't?).
Towards the end of the press conference, Karo's opponent arrived. According to our photographer, he appeared to be a 'nervous' twenty-three year old who immediately started taunting Karo regarding the people he has fought in his career. Jeff Monson's opponent is a Brazilian guy who has a record of 28-3 (although on Impact FC's site, he is incorrectly listed as 'Brad Morris').
Oh, and apparently Geronimo Dos Santos is a very large dude which may throw Josh Barnett's sodomy plans right out the window.

Jordan Breen reports on the unintentionally hilarious pre-fight press conference in Brisbane, for Impact FC's first event this Saturday, starring Josh Barnett, Karo Parisyan, and Sokoudjou:
"The puddle of water continued to hungrily devour the tile floor.
The Australian media were keen to ask about sporting crossover: Former UFC champion Carlos Newton was asked about the recent State of Origin, the nation's most beloved rugby league competition, while Ferreira was asked why Brazil's national side lost at the World Cup.
"DUNGA!" Ferreira exploded before his manager and translator Tiago Okamura even finished translating the question. "Dunga took the team down!" he added, giving the former Brazilian coach a literal thumbs down. As the soccer conversation went on, an anxious Parisyan drummed loudly on his thighs before standing up and saying quietly, "I can't sit down, man."
When Ferreira's opponent, Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou, spoke, it was again Barnett who took the media reins.
"Your background is in judo, but you prefer to use your muay Thai in fights," Barnett earnestly inquired. "Why do you not use the skills you've worked on your whole life?"
"Well, with fighters like Arona or Nogueira, if I throw them, they'll submit me. That's why I focus on striking, what I love to do," Sokoudjou explained. "With judo, you just throw, there's not so much ground game."
"Not exactly, but whatever," the roaming Parisyan interjected from the back of the room. The room fell silent. With no response, Parisyan rolled his eyes to discredit the Cameroonian, whom he actually beat in judo competition nearly a decade ago. Parisyan continued his stroll around the room before settling on the couch next to me.
"What are you writing?" he asked.
"I'm writing about you walking around, rolling your eyes," I smiled."

Bob Sapp pulled off July 18's "Impact FC," threatens legal action
It looks like Australia isn't on "Sapp time."
Gargantuan heavyweight and entertainment personality Bob Sapp (11-6-1) today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that he has been pulled from a fight with Soa Palelei (9-2) at "Impact FC 2: The Uprising - Sydney."
Sapp, who is currently in Bulgaria after recently completing work on a remake of "Conan the Barbarian," said he received an email today from the Australian MMA startup informing him that the promotion would not fly him to Sydney for the July 18 fight because the plane ticket is too expensive.
"Just like that," Sapp said.
Impact FC formally emerged this past month with an ambitious plan to hold three MMA events packed with well-known veterans on three consecutive Saturdays. The first event took place this past Saturday in Brisbane and featured Josh Barnett, Rameau Thierry Sokodjou, Jeff Monson and Karo Parisyan.
Sapp was set to join several marquee fighters on the July 18 event, which is headlined by UFC veterans Ken Shamrock and Pedro Rizzo.
The 6-foot-5, 350-pound fighter said he had assembled a training camp in Bulgaria to prepare for the bout and spent at least $10,000 on coaches, training partners, and living expenses.
"We had all the paperwork completed," Sapp said.
At the same time, Sapp wasn't shocked by the last-minute cancellation and speculated the promotion's ambitious schedule might be at fault. In the past, he required promoters to put his fight purses in an escrow account before he signed on the dotted line. This time, he didn't.
"That's why they used the loophole, and that's why they jumped," Sapp said.
Impact's promoter, Tom Huggins, could not be reached for comment on the situation. It's unknown whether Palelei will fight on Sunday.
The heavyweight said his team plans to draft a formal letter to the promotion asking for reimbursement of his expenses. If that fails, he may take legal action.
"I'm not going to allow anybody to screw me over," Sapp said.
Sapp has fought the bulk of his bouts in Japan, where his oversized physique and persona have made him a star. This past October, he was defeated by Sokodjou in the semifinal of DREAM's "Super Hulk Tournament."
Most recently, he reversed a three-fight slide with a win over Sascha Weinpolter at K-1 ColliZion 2010 in Croatia.
But today's experience left a bitter taste in his mouth.
"What I never liked is that I go to these other countries and they just treat fighters and people like crap," Sapp said. "It's just rude."

Impact Promoter: Sapp Never Signed Contract, Replaced by Morris
SYDNEY, Australia -- Bob Sapp won't be facing Soa Palelei as planned for Impact FC's Sunday card in Sydney, Australia. However, Impact promoter Tom Huggins says the central issue with Sapp isn't the cost of plane tickets.
Sapp, 37, has just completed filming a remake of "Conan the Barbarian" in Bulgaria. While there, Sapp worked with Bulgarian sambo coaches to prepare for the bout. Impact FC had agreed to fly Sapp and two of his trainers to Sydney for the Palelei bout. However, the arrangement became unworkable due to Sapp's stalling and procrastination, Huggins said.
"For three weeks, we tried to get Bob to commit to flight dates and sign a contract. He never actually signed the contract we sent him weeks ago," said Huggins.
Sapp did not return an initial call for comment.
However, Sapp told MMAJunkie.com Wednesday night that he was pulled from the card because Impact FC were unwilling to pay for his airfare from Bulgaria to Australia. Sapp added that he had spent $10,000 on a training camp, and planned to draft a formal letter to the promotion, seeking reimbursement for his expenses.
"We needed to have this stuff taken care of weeks ago. You get on the phone with Bob, and two hours later, nothing gets accomplished. Bob is a business guy, too. He knows that sometimes things happen that make deals untenable," he added. "You can't just get three plane tickets out Sofia, especially for Bob Sapp. He's 350 pounds; he can't fly coach. Getting all the right connecting flights out of Bulgaria can't just be done last minute.
"The tickets were getting more expensive, but it was never a price issue," continued Huggins. "Bob was actually very reasonable about money. It was the logistics and time. None of this would've been an issue if he wasn't in Bulgaria. That made the logistics really hard: there were major visa issues for these guys coming to Australia, they had to be consulate-issued. We just weren't getting the help we needed from Bob to get it done properly."
Huggins informed Sherdog.com that Palelei will remain on the card, taking on fellow UFC vet Brad Morris. Morris was originally set to face Jeff Monson at the inaugural Impact FC card on July 10 in Brisbane, but came down with a virus that forced him to pull out.
Morris and Palelei actually made their pro MMA debuts against one another in September 2002, with Palelei stopping Morris in the fourth round.

Filho is still crazy:
Uit het sherdog verslag van de weging voor Impact FC:
Filho and his camp left the room at 2:06 p.m., and re-entered at 3:02 p.m. An exhausted Filho, dripping sweat from the sauna suit under his sweater and jeans, toweled off and got on the scale completely naked, with absolutely no regard for the audience. The stark nude Filho weighed in at 186, greenlighting the bout with Kang, which was originally supposed to be the final of the Pride 183-pound grand prix back in November 2006.
