The Historicity of Jesus Christ vs Julius Caesar?

The "Real" Julius Caesar (http://draconem.vox.com/library/photo/6a00d4142900b7685e00e39897b0a70003.html)
Evidence for Julius Caesar
Contemporary: During his lifetime there are many historical references to Julius Caesar made by respected historians.
Not Contemporary: Immediately after his lifetime and for years thereafter many historical references to Julius Caesar were made by respected historians.
Summary of evidence: During his lifetime, we have his own writings, the works of Julius Caesar (http://www.thelatinlibrary.com/caesar/). We have the writings of several well respected contemporary historians, such as the writings of Cattallus (http://www.thelatinlibrary.com/catullus.shtml) & Cicero (http://www.thelatinlibrary.com/cic.html). Immediately after his death we have many more historical references to Caesar. In 42-43 B.C. Caesar’s ally Sallust (http://www.thelatinlibrary.com/sall.html) wrote one of the more famous, called Bellum Catilinae (http://www.thelatinlibrary.com/sall.1.html).

The "Real" Jesus (http://draconem.vox.com/library/photo/6a00d4142900b7685e00e398979f790001.html)
Evidence for Jesus Christ
Contemporary: None
Not Contemporary: The gospels of Jesus verifiably date to 180AD at the earliest, 150 yrs after his supposed death.
Summary of evidence: The earliest existing accounts of Jesus as described in the 4 varying gospels, written by unknown theological authors, surfaced some 150yrs after his supposed death – there are no historical references of Jesus whatsoever. The gospels cannot be considered historical or contemporary. Archaeologists date to the early 3rd century the oldest incomplete fragments conclusively belonging to the gospels. A fragment of the gospel of John dating to the late 2nd century may exist, but this is inconclusive. No one explicitly mentions Jesus Christ of the synoptic gospels until the late 2nd century writings of St. Irenaeus and Theopholis. [Ed Doherty – The Jesus Puzzle (http://pages.ca.inter.net/%7Eoblio/century2.htm)] [Helmut Koester – The Ancient Christian Gospels (http://www.hds.harvard.edu/faculty/em/koester.html)]
Conclusion: One should be skeptical of the suggestion that there is even a remotely equal amount of historical evidence of Jesus compared to Caesar. Of Julius Caesar we have more than enough contemporary historical evidence to conclude not only that he merely existed, but that he was heavily involved in most of the important political developments of the 1st century BC roman empire. With respect to Jesus, there is simply no reliable historical evidence whatsoever. Documents showing up a century and a half later than someone’s supposed death written by unknown religious authors is not reliable evidence for a historical Jesus

Ben zelf Brabants, en ik ben het stellig met Lee Hottie eens (ook voor het eerst, en voor het laatst). Grappen van Hans Teeuwen zijn alleen leuk als Hans Teeuwen ze maakt.
