In an open-weight fight, Super Hulk Minowaman will take on Super Heavyweight Jimmy Ambriz, who returns to Japan for the first time since losing to Sergei Kharitonov at DREAM.6.

MMA’s favorite Kyokushin Karateka, Katsunori Kikuno, will make his return since a valiant effort against Eddie Alvarez in the white cage to face Cage Force Lightweight champion Kuniyoshi Hironaka, who is fresh off a Shoot Boxing victory. This fight will decide who the next to join the top Japanese lightweights is.

In another Lightweight fight, DREAM announced the signing of former EliteXC Lightweight champion KJ Noons who will battle fellow striker, Andre Dida. They are probably hoping for a Noons victory and him entering the Lightweight title picture.

Ryo Chonan makes his return to the major leagues as he has been pitted against MMA’s other favorite Kyokushin Karateka, Andrews Nakahara. This will be Nakahara’s first fight in his drop to Welterweight and these two plus Kiyoshi Tamura are probably closest to the role as challengers for DREAM Welterweight champion Zaromskis.

komen nog wat bij

Talking with the press after todays announcement, DREAM EP Sasahara said that there will be 3-4 additional fights to complete the DREAM.13 card. Two of the fights will be in heavier weight classes and one will be a DREAM vs. Strikeforce fight (Dida vs. Noons is the other one with this theme). These fights and the possible arrival of a big-shot Fedor-class Heavyweight (from Strikeforce?) are planned to be announced next week.

This DREAM X Strikeforce thing will start in full force from the Light Heavyweight GP 1st Round event in May. Since DREAM don’t have that many fighters in the heavier divisions, some will come from Strikeforce.

Tatsuya Kawajiri, Shinya Aoki, Kazushi Sakuraba, and Norifumi “KID” Yamamoto will not participate in this event. Possibly at DREAM.14 (which I believe is the May card, not the South Korea event).

Sasahara also talked about ASTRA and said that they might do some kind of cooperation for J-Rock’s event. He feels that when someone like Yoshida (he called Yoshida the treasure of Japanese MMA) retires, the whole MMA community of Japan has to lend a hand.
