Update: Zack Arnold of FightOpinion.com got Mir’s exact quote and it looks like they were not taken out of context.
“I want to fight Brock Lesnar. I hate who he is as a person. I want to break his neck in the ring. I want him to be the first person that dies to Octagon-related injuries.”
I think Frank Mir wanting revenge on Brock Lesnar is a natural thing, especially after the way the heavyweight champion got in his face after beating him at UFC 100. I think Mir wanting to payback Lesnar is perfectly healthy, but in his latest interview the former champion may have gone a little too far when describing how he intends on getting his revenge.
In a interview with Mark Madden of WXDX Radio Mir said he wants to break Brock Lesnar’s neck and make him the sports first death in the Octagon. Bleacher Report’s Brian Levick sums up Mir’s latest interview.
“In an interview conducted with Mark Madden on WXDX radio, former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir told the host that he wanted to break Brock Lesnar’s neck if the two meet again inside the octagon.
Mir also went on to say that he wanted to make Lesnar the first person to die due to octagon-related njuries. Mir has made it well known that he has no love for Lesnar.”
I know Mir wants to get back at Brock and saying he wants to break his arm is normal for MMA, but breaking his neck and killing him…that’s a little too far. Especially, with the UFC attempting to get the sport legalized in so many locations around the world, this is not the image they want for lawmakers.
At the moment I do not have direct quotes from Mir, but I will make my best attempt to get them for you so we know exactly what he said.
If Mir defeats Shane Carwin at UFC 111, he would be next in line to fight Lesnar in July. This could also possibly hurt Mir with the athletic commissions as well, if they take this as a threat they could be hesitant to approve him for a license in a third fight against Lesnar.
