Update: Zack Arnold of FightOpinion.com got Mir’s exact quote and it looks like they were not taken out of context.
“I want to fight Brock Lesnar. I hate who he is as a person. I want to break his neck in the ring. I want him to be the first person that dies to Octagon-related injuries.”
I think Frank Mir wanting revenge on Brock Lesnar is a natural thing, especially after the way the heavyweight champion got in his face after beating him at UFC 100. I think Mir wanting to payback Lesnar is perfectly healthy, but in his latest interview the former champion may have gone a little too far when describing how he intends on getting his revenge.
In a interview with Mark Madden of WXDX Radio Mir said he wants to break Brock Lesnar’s neck and make him the sports first death in the Octagon. Bleacher Report’s Brian Levick sums up Mir’s latest interview.
“In an interview conducted with Mark Madden on WXDX radio, former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir told the host that he wanted to break Brock Lesnar’s neck if the two meet again inside the octagon.
Mir also went on to say that he wanted to make Lesnar the first person to die due to octagon-related njuries. Mir has made it well known that he has no love for Lesnar.”
I know Mir wants to get back at Brock and saying he wants to break his arm is normal for MMA, but breaking his neck and killing him…that’s a little too far. Especially, with the UFC attempting to get the sport legalized in so many locations around the world, this is not the image they want for lawmakers.
At the moment I do not have direct quotes from Mir, but I will make my best attempt to get them for you so we know exactly what he said.
If Mir defeats Shane Carwin at UFC 111, he would be next in line to fight Lesnar in July. This could also possibly hurt Mir with the athletic commissions as well, if they take this as a threat they could be hesitant to approve him for a license in a third fight against Lesnar.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship, along with former UFC champion Frank Mir, have recently released a statement in an attempt to clean up a mess created by the often outspoken heavyweight during a recent radio appearance.

“A lot of individuals are so worried about being politically correct,” Mir said in an interview on WXDX radio. “I’d rather go ahead and say what’s on my mind than to sit there and come up with some PC, ‘Oh, the guy is a great fighter and I have a lot of respect for him’. If I don’t mean it, why is it even coming out of my mouth? I want to fight Lesnar. I hate who he is as a person. I want to break his neck in the ring. I want him to be the first person that dies due to Octagon-related injuries. That’s what’s going through my mind.”

The aftershock felt from those recent comments were more than enough to force a recent reaction fromm the UFC brass.

“I was disappointed by Frank Mir’s comments,” said UFC President Dana White in the recent statement released from the UFC. “Frank’s been with the UFC a long time, he’s a two-time heavyweight champion and a commentator for the WEC. I think his emotions are running high right now, he has a big fight coming up next month and he’s still upset about his loss to Lesnar. He’s been talked to, he regrets what he said, and he won’t be saying anything like that again.”

Mir apologized to every one imaginable for the recent comments in the release from the UFC.

“I would like to apologize to Brock Lesnar, his family, the UFC and the UFC fans for my stupid remarks,” said Mir. “I respect Brock, all the other fighters, and the sport of mixed martial arts. I’m sorry that I stepped out of line.”

"When I got called in and they told me, 'Listen man, this is an issue,' I kind of had a smirk on my face the whole time," says Mir, who was quoted in a public apology for the remark on the UFC's Web site earlier this week. "I was like, you're kidding, right? This is a joke, right? I've heard people say that this is to the death. I've heard people say about an opponent, 'I'm going to kill him.' I heard Brock say he was going to put his hand up my rear end to pull out a horseshoe. I didn't hear anyone get too upset about that."
