quotes by Hunter S. Thompson.....
A word to the wise is infuriating.
America... just a nation of two hundred million used car salesmen with all the money we need to buy guns and no qualms about killing anybody else in the world who tries to make us uncomfortable.
Buy the ticket, take the ride.
Call on God, but row away from the rocks.
For every moment of triumph, for every instance of beauty, many souls must be trampled.
Going to trial with a lawyer who considers your whole life-style a Crime in Progress is not a happy prospect.
I feel the same way about disco as I do about herpes.
I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me.
I have a theory that the truth is never told during the nine-to-five hours.
I wouldn't recommend sex, drugs or insanity for everyone, but they've always worked for me.
If I'd written all the truth I knew for the past ten years, about 600 people - including me - would be rotting in prison cells from Rio to Seattle today. Absolute truth is a very rare and dangerous commodity in the context of professional journalism.
If you're going to be crazy, you have to get paid for it or else you're going to be locked up.
In a closed society where everybody's guilty, the only crime is getting caught. In a world of thieves, the only final sin is stupidity.
It was the Law of the Sea, they said. Civilization ends at the waterline. Beyond that, we all enter the food chain, and not always right at the top.
No man is so foolish but he may sometimes give another good counsel, and no man so wise that he may not easily err if he takes no other counsel than his own. He that is taught only by himself has a fool for a master.
Of all the men that have run for president in the twentieth century, only George McGovern truly understood what a monument America could be to the human race.
Politics is the art of controlling your environment.
That was always the difference between Muhammad Ali and the rest of us. He came, he saw, and if he didn't entirely conquer - he came as close as anybody we are likely to see in the lifetime of this doomed generation.
The Edge... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over.
The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.

more quotes by Hunter S. Thompson.....
The person who doesn't scatter the morning dew will not comb gray hairs.
The trouble with Nixon is that he's a serious politics junkie. He's totally hooked and like any other junkie, he's a bummer to have around, especially as President.
The TV business is uglier than most things. It is normally perceived as some kind of cruel and shallow money trench through the heart of the journalism industry, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free and good men die like dogs, for no good reason.
There is nothing more helpless and irresponsible than a man in the depths of an ether binge.
When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.
You better take care of me Lord, if you don't you're gonna have me on your hands.
You can turn your back on a person, but never turn your back on a drug, especially when its waving a razor sharp hunting knife in your eye.

Interview with Thompson, conducted by the BBC in the ’70s, in which Thompson laments his celebrity status and the Raoul Duke pseudonym characteriture he created in his books. His last sentence eerily foreshadows his life later being turned into myth and film projects

The Fear and Loathing Guide for FightClub108 reporters....
the late, great Hunter S. Thompson might be remembered best for his unadulterated drug use, his take-no-prisoners journalism, or his famous aviators and steel jaw clenched cigarette. No matter what you know or think of the good doctor, he made an impact on journalism with his unabashed “Gonzo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gonzo_journalism)” style of writing. It’s this kind of no-holds-barred attitude that we should apply to FC108-posting. When it comes to social marketing (http://ignitesocialmedia.com/), in order to get your audience to love your brand, you have to understand it first. And sometimes what that takes is going Gonzo.
Tell the Truth, Even if it’s Frightening
I have a theory that the truth is never told during the nine-to-five hours.
You believe in what you have to say, otherwise you wouldn’t be saying it. Or, you’re saying things just to hear yourself talk. People can see right through the bull, though, and unless you’re giving your readers the truth, they’ll go somewhere else for it. The idea here is transparency and naked honesty. If you aren’t being honest about your brand, someone else will do it for you.
Break the Rules
A word to the wise is infuriating.
People aren’t stupid. They know all the tricks and methods that have worked for so long, and now that they are savvy, they know better than you. If you’re going to use FC108-posting and social media as a tool to market what you’re selling, you better know more about it than your readers. No one is going to find your content interesting if it is the same thing they’ve heard time and time again. Do something different, do something strange, do something controversial. Get them talking.
http://www.ignitesocialmedia.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/hunter_s_thompson_by_nevarraven.jpg
Fail
Never turn your back on fear. It should always be in front of you, like a thing that might have to be killed.
Fear of failure is what will hold you back from anything you do. Well, here’s some news: you can’t learn anything from success. In order to be a good writer, a good marketer, or a good FC108-poster, you’re going to have to swing the bat a few times. People are going to talk about you and your brand no matter what, and even if they’re saying bad things, it’s up to you to listen and respond. You’ll know what to do next time.
Leave Your Mark
When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.
In this economy, traditional advertising is no longer the best option when it comes to getting your product or service to stick in the minds of the consumer. That’s why FC108-posting is so important right now. So with that notion, be forthcoming and real about what you’re saying. Stand out above the rest with content that will resonate, and your brand will be better for it. Don’t be afraid to stir the pot.
Step on Toes
For every moment of triumph, for every instance of beauty, many souls must be trampled.
You’re not going to be able to please all the people all the time. In order to tell the truth, you might have to break a few eggs along the way. I’m not saying you should go stomping around the fight sports forums sphere kicking other posters in the teeth, but exposing someone for the hack they are might get you some points amongst your peers. With all the “experts (http://www.chrisbrogan.com/what-i-want-a-social-media-expert-to-know/)” out there, you might just be doing the world some good by calling them out for what they really are.
Keep at it
Buy the ticket, take the ride.
FC108-posting is hard. For many, it’s a full time job. Just like any full time job, it takes a lot of effort to make it work. There’s no use in being a half-assed FC108-poster, so put your all into it, and don’t back down. Your good work will triumph, so believe in what you do, and believe in what you write.
Viva La Resistance!!!

Hunter S. Thompson :: The Rum Diary (Film) (http://www.aquariumdrunkard.com/2007/07/30/hunter-s-thompson-the-rum-diary-film/)
http://aquariumdrunkard.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/07/hunter-s-thompson.jpg
It was just announced that Johnny Depp (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000136/)will indeed inhabit the persona, and reprise the role, of his late friend, Dr. Hunter S. Thompson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hunter_S._Thompson) in the upcoming film adaptation of Thompson’s first (autobiographical) novel The Rum Diary (http://www.amazon.com/Rum-Diary-Bloomsbury-Classic-Reads/dp/074757457X/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/002-4579057-5764808?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1185834250&sr=8-2). Your Drunkard has read most everything the good Doctor has written, and think with Depp, again on board, this will be a fine adaptation.
(Via: Variety (http://www.variety.com/)) “Depp goes Gonzo again – Johnny Depp will channel Hunter S. Thompson once again in Warner Independent’s adaptation of “The Rum Diary.” Depp will play Paul Kemp, a freelance journo writing for a rundown newspaper in 1950s Puerto Rico and surrounded by a bunch of lost souls bent on self-destruction. The journo was 22 when he wrote the autobiographical novel and had yet to develop his trademark gonzo style. It was written in 1959 but not published until 1998.
Depp previously starred in the bigscreen adaptation of Thompson’s psychedelic-soaked adventures chronicled in “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,” published in 1972. Depp just finished work on “Sweeney Todd” and is expected to do “The Rum Diary” after “Shantaram,” Mira Nair’s adaptation of the novel about an Australian drug addict who resumes his life of crime after escaping to India.”
